The Music Trail

Once upon a time...in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia an idea was born.  Appalachian traditions run as deep here as the hollows.  Music here is more than something to listen to it is a way of life. In Blue Ridge country you can toss a rock in any direction and hit a musician!

Joe Wilson, chairman of the National Council for the Traditional Arts, is a music historian and folklorist who put this idea together to allow the rest of the world an inside look into the amazing musical heritage, thus the idea for this 253 miles trail that begins in the eastern foothills and takes you clear to the far side of the state to the coal fields of Virginia.

He said "There's music everywhere!"

We recommend his book "A Guide to The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail" which has incredible history on this region and comes with two narrative cd's to use in a driving tour, and highlights each town and community along this trail. We guarantee you will fall in love with Virginia after listening to this soothing narrative and learning about its unique people and culture.

People young and old have been born into the tradition of mountain music in these hills. It's as much a part of their roots as Sunday supper of fried chicken after church.

Old timey music, bluegrass and gospel course through the veins of the Blue Ridge Region. It is as American as apple pie and baseball!

We hope you will follow closely the pages of this website and plan your visit for some homemade biscuits and bluegrass real soon.  This is the real Americana y'all.
